1. Damaged Stitching

One of the first elements to deteriorate on a sail is the stitching. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun gradually weakens the thread, especially along seams and UV covers.

Loose or broken stitching should be repaired quickly before the sail structure becomes compromised.

2. Small Tears in the Sail Fabric

Small tears can appear after heavy wind conditions, accidental chafing or contact with rigging hardware.

Even minor tears can grow rapidly under load. Early repair prevents the damage from spreading.

3. UV Protection Wear

Many headsails include a UV protection strip that protects the sail fabric when it is furled.

Over time, this UV strip deteriorates due to constant sun exposure. Replacing it is a common maintenance procedure that helps protect the sail.
